Dubai: A lesson in sustainability – that’s what Germany is offering the world come October. Though its edutaining programme at Expo 2020 Dubai, the country – well known for its energy revolution, ‘Energiewende’, and recycling incentives – will showcase ideas for a cleaner, greener world.

The county pavilion, titled ‘Campus Germany’, is focused on imparting knowledge and doing so in a didactic way.

How does it work?

When you enter the German pavilion, you must enroll in a curriculum that’ll take you through an induction, classes and a graduation. These are interactive sessions and exhibitions.

Can you graduate from the German Pavilion?

1. Induction event

Held in the Welcome Hall, the induction is where visitors will face a pit with more than 150,000 balls. When they pick a ball, it is their gateway to a presentation; each ball will tell a story, present a statistic, or focus on a sustainability champion from Germany.

2. Energy Lab, Future City Lab, and Biodiversity Lab

Next up, visitors can head to the three themed labs that will play host to a number of exhibitions. They will be provided cutting-edge connected devices, which will allow for an informative walk around.

At the Energy Lab, one can learn about energy supply solutions for the future, while in the Future City Lab one can learn about the urban landscape surrounding them. The Biodiversity Lab meanwhile will display nature’s offerings, complete with a suspended installation.

3. Graduation Hall

After passing through the three labs, visitors will proceed to the ‘Graduation Hall’. The hall will have a set of swinging seats - all participants must be seated. The aim behind this installation is to ensure that visitors swing in unison, thereby imparting the message “together, even the smallest of movements can achieve great things”.

A green message for all

Germany aims to educate people about the importance of sustainability, remind them of the global problems that have surfaced because of humans’ use of limited resources, and leave a green legacy for the next generation.
