Dubai: The inaugural COP28 Business & Philanthropy Climate Forum has announced strategic partnerships with prominent global organizations aimed at driving climate and nature action on a global scale.

The forum is designed to bring together 500 leaders from the business and philanthropy sectors, along with policymakers, to accelerate climate solutions and achieve more significant results. It marks a novel approach to multi-stakeholder engagement for addressing climate and nature issues.

“Businesses and philanthropists must play leading roles in meeting net zero pathways and delivering sustainable development, and through the Business & Philanthropy Climate Forum at COP28, they will have a platform to do so,” said COP28 President Dr. Sultan Al Jaber. “The BPCF is a key part of our Presidency’s agenda to help deliver concrete outcomes from the private and philanthropic sectors.”

We are committed to hosting a fully inclusive COP, and it would be impossible to do this without the vital input of our business and philanthropy communities.

Key global organizations partnering with the Forum include the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI), the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development – Network of Foundations Working for Development (OECD-NetFWD), the World Economic Forum's Giving to Amplify Earth Action, the Asian Development Bank, the Africa Finance Corporation, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and XPRIZE.

These partners will contribute their expertise and resources to develop strategies for the private sector to bridge the annual financing gap of over $3 trillion required for achieving net-zero emissions, reversing nature loss, and restoring biodiversity.

“Working together to create a truly inclusive action platform, the Forum’s partners will be instrumental in collectively turning our aspirations into actionable outcomes for climate and nature,” said Badr Jafar, COP28 Special Representative for Business & Philanthropy. “Their broad expertise, resources, and unwavering commitment is what is required to harness the true potential of both business and philanthropy, working alongside an enabling policy environment, to generate a multiplier effect on impact towards increasingly urgent climate and nature goals.”

The Forum will span the COP28 Blue Zone and Green Zone and precede the two-week COP28 program running from November 30 to December 12. The two-week agenda for COP28 was developed through an open consultation with stakeholders from around the world, marking a unique approach taken by a COP Presidency.
