Shawarma is the ultimate comfort foods for millions of Arabs across the world. When we did a story on the top shawarmas in Dubai, many readers commented that the best shawarmas were in fact in Sharjah. These claims have been reinforced by many of my friends who spent their whole life in the UAE. They will very clearly say that the favourite shawarma sandwiches were always from Sharjah. There’s no denying the comfort that comes from biting into a pitta roll, the warm roast chicken covered in toumeya (garlic sauce), all washed down with a sugary fruit juice cocktail - nothing ends a long night in Dubai like a late night stop at a shawarma stand. Do you have a favourite Shawarma restaurant you would like added to the list? Get in touch with us on Twitter or Facebook.
