Dubai: Gold jewellery fans in the UAE should head to Sharjah to check out the world’s largest ring, now currently valued at Dh11 million ($3 million).
The 21-carat Najmat Taiba or Star of Taiba, which has been recognised by the Guinness Book of World Records and endorsed by the World Gold Council, is now on display at Sahara Centre.
The massive jewellery piece weighs nearly 64 kilograms (141 pounds) and is adorned with 5.1 kilograms of precious stones and diamonds, as well as 615 Swarovski crystals.
It took 450 hours in 45 days for at least 55 jewel smiths to produce the ring in 2000 and at that time, it cost the owner $547,000. However, since gold prices have since skyrocketed and are now trading at more than $1,300 an ounce, the value has gone up to $3 million.
Those who have a penchant for gold are encouraged to swing by the ground floor of the original Sahara Centre, just opposite the Rossella Jewellery shop, to view the masterpiece.
The ring is owned by Dubai-based company Taiba.
