Dubai: Before you step in to your car, check again if your car’s headlights, rear lights and indicator lights are working correctly. This is because the UAE’s traffic laws provide penalties including fines and black points if the vehicle’s lights are not working, or are not used when required.
According to the amended traffic law (Ministerial Resolution No. (178) for the year 2017 on Rules and Procedures of Traffic Control), if the lights of the vehicle are not working, you face a fine of Dh400 and six black points.
Even if your car’s headlights are in working condition, but you fail to use them at night, or even during the day when the weather is foggy, you face a fine of Dh500, with four black points.
Not using the indicator when necessary
If you fail to use the indicator lights, to signal lane change or while making turns, you face a fine of Dh400 in the UAE. If the indicator lights are not in working condition, though, you would also get two black points along with the Dh400 fine. For heavy vehicles, if the rear or sidelights are broken or missing, the motorist faces a fine of Dh500 and four black points.
How many black points can I get?
A black point is issued on a driver’s licence and you can get a maximum of 24 black points after which your case would be referred to court and your licence confiscated or suspended.
