NOVAK DJOKOVIC KEEPS SETTING THE BAR HIGHER AND HIGHER: At the beginning of the year, Novak Djokovic was not sure if he would be allowed to play in the Australian Open and the US Open again due to his vaccination status. But the Serb returned to the two Grand Slams and managed to equal Rafael Nadal’s record in Australia and surpassed the Spaniard in the French Open to take his tally to a record 24 Grand Slam titles with US Open crown. A remarkable feat, considering that he had to contend with the younger players, who are gunning for his throne. However, he had proclaimed that he was not afraid of them and managed to keep them at bay with Wimbledon being the sole exception, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final. At aged 36, the world No 1, after winning his seventh ATP Tour finals, Djokovic has no intentions of slowing down and is targeting more records in 2024, that includes an Olympic gold. Djokovic has once again proved that he means business and the contenders to his throne will have to be at their best. (By A.K.S. SATISH, Sports Editor)
