ABU DHABI POLICE’S CRACKDOWN ON CYBERCRIMINALS A REASSURING MEASURE: It was announced on Monday that Abu Dhabi Police returned Dh21 million worth of funds over the last seven months to victims of phone scams and online fraud. A total of 1,740 cases of cybercrime were reported to authorities in the UAE during this period. Major Mohammed Al Aryani, Head of the Anti-Fraud Section at Abu Dhabi Police’s Criminal Investigation Directorate, said: “We were able to stop cyber fraud in 80 to 90 per cent of cases, ever since we began coordinating our efforts with banks.” These are very heartening figures indeed and will go a long way in instilling confidence among those who conduct online transactions legally. This also comes as further proof of the stupendous work being done by the UAE’s police forces across all the emirates in order to safeguard the interests of all residents and visitors. While Abu Dhabi and the UAE authorities are doing their best to keep all of us safe from cybercriminals, it is incumbent upon us community members to do our bit and stay vigilant at all times in order to avoid being trapped and cheated through online fraud. DANIIL MEDVEDEV’S STAY AT THE TOP TO END THIS WEEK: Daniil Medvedev’s reign at the top of ATP men’s rankings proved to be a shortlived one after the Russian suffered a stunning 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 loss to Gael Monfils in the third round of Indian Wells on Monday. Come Monday, Serbian Novak Djokovic will be back at his customary position as Medvedev failed to better the record of two of his compatriots’ stay at the top – Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin – for six and nine weeks, respectively. Medvedev was formally installed as the men’s world No.1 only on February 28, with his stay at the top lasting for three weeks. ‘’I'm quite happy right now - I'm in my zone,’’ veteran Monfils said after the win.[COMMENT BY: Gautam Bhattacharyya, Senior Associate Editor]

DOLLY PARTHON’S MUSICAL GENIUS CANNOT BE DENIED: Can we all just agree that Dolly Parton is only the most talented singer who comes along once in a lifetime and she deserves that spot in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame despite her withdrawal from the nominations, citing she isn’t worthy to be on that coveted list? Dolly Parton, not worthy? This talented powerhouse has composed more than 3,000 songs in her career, garnered 11 Grammy Awards and 50 nominations, 10 Country Music Association Awards, and countless other trophies that take pride of place on her mantle. Yet, the criticism that followed Parton’s name on the list, which includes the likes of Eminem and Lionel Richie, perhaps incited the music icon to pull her name from the running. While fans may be heartbroken over the move, Parton has promised in her parting words that she will return with a rock ‘n’ roll album that will hopefully earn her a spot on the nominations list soon. We live in hope.[COMMENT BY: Bindu Rai, Entertainment Editor]
