BIDEN ACCEPTS NOMINATION, VOWS TO HEAL THE US: Joe Biden vowed to heal the United States and offered himself as a ‘uniter’ while accepting the Democratic Party nomination for the White House on Thursday. His speech, delivered at a largely empty arena in Delaware, brought the curtain down on the Democratic convention which was held virtually because of the coronavirus epidemic. "While I'll be a Democratic candidate, I'll be an American president," said Biden, who faces President Donald Trump in the November 3 election. Over the next two months, Biden will lock horns with Trump who will use every opportunity to knock his opponent down. [COMMENT BY: Alex Abraham, Senior Associate Editor]

UAE IS ALL ABOUT CLEAN ENERGY: The UAE has always made environment a top policy priority. This has been evident in the country’s trailblazing steps towards clean energy, despite being blessed with abundant hydrocarbon resources. Projects like the Mohammad Bin Rashid Solar Park and the recently-inaugurated Barakah Nuclear Plant stand testimony to this commitment. It is also the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena). Recently, the global community acknowledged the UAE’s successes as the country dominated the global competitiveness rankings for 2020 in eight environmental indicators, including environmental laws. The country’s green future looks bright as it surges forward. [COMMENT BY: Somshankar Bandyopadhyay, Assistant Editor]

HOW MUCH WOULD SOMEONE PAY FOR NMC SELL-OFFS? Abu Dhabi’s NMC Health has outlined the broad thrusts of its restructuring plan in a post-Dr. B.R. Shetty future. Much of its hopes rest on what the hospital operator can generate from selling assets deemed as not core to that future. But what sort of valuations can it hope for? NMC’s previous management had a history of buying up entities at over-inflated valuations. In the current environment, will NMC asset sell-offs get anywhere close to those sort of valuations? Banks with skin in the NMC game will be watching with intent. [Comment by: Manoj Nair, Business Editor]

TEST FOR THE COACH: Inter Milan coach Antonio Conte can demonstrate his winning power tonight and help fallen Italian giants haul themselves back to the top table in Europe when they take on Sevilla in the Europa League final. Another trophy would add to the silverware-laden seasons at Juventus and Chelsea — and success will also extend the barren spell of his Sevilla rival Julen Lopetegui when they clash in Cologne. The difference in fortunes could not be starker as Lopetegui has been unable to claim a single honour at senior level as coach. [COMMENT BY: Matt Smith, Sports Editor]

BOLLYWOOD ACTOR SUSHANT’S CASE TAKEN UP BY CBI: After two months of public mud-slinging and smear campaigns, political hand wringing and even a tussle between state police departments, Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death is finally being investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Late on Thursday, the team reached Mumbai and on Friday morning they had apparently taken in a new – yet unidentified –person in for questioning. Will the new boots on the ground yield better results? Only time will tell. [COMMENT BY: Karishma Nandkeolyar, Assistant Online Editor]
