FOLLOW TRAFFIC RULES Police have warned motorists to beware of road conditions during the morning fog, which is a usual phenomenon during the winter in the UAE. Low visibility during foggy mornings often causes accidents for some motorists tend to drive reckless their destination and do not follow traffic safety rules. Reckless driving during the fog has been known to contribute to highway pileups in the past. Police advise motorists not to use hazard lights and slow down during limited visibility. Drivers should also double the safety distance, use low-beam headlights and avoid overtaking. Motorists must be extra-careful during foggy conditions as the poor visibility poses grave threats to road user safety. [COMMENT BY: Ashfaq Ahmed, Senior Assistant Editor]

IS THE BEIRUT BLAST PROBE DEAD AND BURIED? Judge Tariq Bitar, appointed to investigate the biggest non-nuclear explosion in history in Beirut in August 2020, seems to have ruffled too many feathers. The most heavily armed group in Lebanon - Hezbollah, whose arsenal and military prowess dwarf that of the Lebanese army - is scared of his probe and what it might find. They organised a protest on Thursday. But, alleged Christian militiamen opened fire on the protesters killing 7 Shiite Muslims. After this incident, the level of tension in the country is such that the probe itself seems to have taken a backseat. Lebanese are hoping and praying that the country - already in the doldrums - doesn't hit rock bottom. [COMMENT BY: Omar Shariff, International Editor]
