The Dubai Traditional Rowing Race 30ft commenced its inaugural season back in 1996-1997 as part of the vision of the late Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who conceived the idea for this category and various traditional marine races.

The inaugural race, held on March 7, 1997, witnessed the participation of 15 boats. Fatah Al-Ma'in 2, skippered by Khalifa Ali Al-Nazar, emerged victorious in the race.
