Whilst relaxing and getting ready for a family Christmas in Dubai, I have been taking a keen interest online and through other communications in the Ladies European Tour (LET) Final Qualifying School at La Manga, Spain.
It is disappointing not to be there and trying to get my full LET status again, but I am ambitious and patient. I hopefully have many years ahead of me.
Congratulations to all 23 players from 13 countries including two amateurs who made it through (20 and ties was the magic number). It must be a huge relief for them all.
128 players started the week with high hopes, but that is modern professional sport for us all. I have not included the scores below, as this is essentially irrelevant once you have you card, it is all about just getting through the Q-School.
It is also not about the money. The total prize money for the Final Q-School is 10,000 euros, with the winner gettng 5,000 euros and thge rest sharred with the rest of thge top five.
The qualifying cut score was 362, one-over for the 90-hole tournament.
There are always hard luck stories at these events, but let’s focus on the good news in this article.
American Gabriella Then won the event by five shots with a final round of six-under 67.
Lisa Pettersen of Sweden won the Pre-Qualifying School to get her into the Final Q-School, where she finished second, which is virtually what I did in 2019.
Friend of Dubai, Meghan MacLaren of England, who finished tied-sixth in the 2020 Dubai Moonlight Classic, finished in tied fourth after flying halfway across the world after just missing out on her LPGA card.
I was pleased to see Italy’s Virginia Elena Carter get through. In my preview for the week, I always thought she was one to watch, but in the end she left it close and finished on the cut mark.
Dubai-based Kristyna Napoleaova of the Czech Republic tied 39th and missed her card, but she is still new to the game and likewise has age and time on her side.
It is so easy to miss out on a playing schedule if you try and do too much on various tours around the world.
Next on the list for the LET is to publish the 2022 calendar. I am excited to see the growth in the Tour and to see where and when I can play in 2022.
