I shot a three under par 69 in the first round of the Dubai Moonlight Classic presented by EGA over the Faldo Course here at Emirates Golf Club – my home club!
It leaves me in a share of tenth after 18 holes, which I’m pretty happy with after playing the first nine holes in the daylight, before coming home under the lights against the backdrop of the stunning Dubai skyline. It was especially fun to have my mum and elder sister walking around with me.
The challenge with the floodlights, is not when it is day or night, but in twilight. It’s the same for the whole field, though, so I shouldn’t complain!
There was not much wind throughout the round, so scoring was always going to be good. I am not a scoreboard or leaderboard watcher so it was only after completing my round that I saw all the scores.
The highlights of my round included birdies on holes 2, 4, 5, 10 and 13 on but I sadly dropped shots on the 8th and 11th.
I was pleased with my all round play today, I was strong off the tee, hit most of the greens and putted solidly. I must give credit to my caddie Gavin, who read the greens well. It is not so easy to have this skill when the lights are on with so many shadows around.
I am proud to be the leading Scot so far, with five of us in the field. Let’s hope I can keep it all going.
It was also nice to have a fun three-ball with Diksha Dagar and Agathe Sauzon, who shot 72 and 70 respectively.
I have just seen the re-draw for tomorrow and I am off again from the 15th alongside Moriya Jutanugarnand Aditi Ashok.
Next on my agenda is to have a stretch and get home for a good night’s sleep, and perhaps have a swim in the morning and play with our dog.
It will be great to welcome crowds tomorrow night, all the food trucks and all the related entertainment as well as introductory golf lessons hosted by the Peter Cowen Golf Academy professionals.
Hope to see you all at Emirates Golf Club.
