Jumeirah Golf Estates hosted the newly launched Beneple Dubai Golf Junior Team Championship over the Fire Course with 18 golfers from JGE, Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Emirates Golf Club competing. The format of the event is best five out of six individual scores to count towards the team score, with the three golf clubs hosting one fixture each. The course was playing tough in breezy conditions and the scores reflected that.
The leading team after the first round with a total score of 158 points was Jumeirah, in second place with a total of 150 points was EGC and in third place with a total of 141 points was Dubai Creek.
Winning the Individual Stableford prize on a card playoff with 35 points was Lorenzo Lironi (EGC), who had a brilliant last nine holes scoring 21 points including three birdies to take the victory.
The runner-up again on a card playoff with 35 points representing JGE was Sam Robinson, who played excellent golf scoring 19 points on the back nine. In third place with yet another 35 points representing JGE was Daul Kim, scoring 17 points on the front nine and 18 points on the back nine.
The nearest the pin competition on eight was playing difficult and went to a raffle with Nikhil Bhatia winning. On the day there was also a beat the pro challenge on 14 that was set-up by Joe O’Connor, one of our Peter Cowen Academy Dubai professionals. Two golfers managed to hit their shots inside O’Connor on the testing par 3: Viktor Kofod-Olsen and Zach Gould.
While concluding the prize-giving presentation Gareth Roberts, Tournament Executive, said: “Congratulations to all the prize winners, and well done to Jumeirah Golf Estates for winning the first round of the event. A huge thank you to past captain of Emirates Golf Club, Boyd Edmondson, for his support of this event, your support allows us to elevate these events to significant level.”
The next fixture of the event will be played at Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club on Sunday March 13.
