Gulf News Caught up with Chris the CEO of Dubai Golf, Chris May, as he looks forward to next week’s Slync.io Dubai Desert Classic on the Majlis Course — and oversees some last-minute repairs.
“Two weeks ago we had some unfortunate damage to the 15th and 17th greens on the Majlis Course,” he said. “Immediately we took action and Matt Perry and his agronomy team have done a great job in the reparation work. In the Emirates Amateur Open we reduced the second round on the Majlis to just 16 holes, allowing time for the two greens to rest and recover.
“However, nature is tough to fight against or fast track, but with the first round of the Classic just six days away, we can see improvements every day.
“The greens will putt very well with a very smooth surface and all 18 greens will be the same pace, which is very important for the DP World Tour, but perhaps there may be some discolouration.
“We are in constant conversations with our friends at the DP World Tour and we are all happy where we are. The rest of the Majlis Course is in very special condition, this is the first year of the newly enlarged and enhanced greens following the summer project work. We look forward to welcoming the best golfers to the Majlis Course, Emirates Golf Club and to Dubai next week.”
