Passengers will see check-in times reduced to just 15 minutes at Dubai Airport's Terminal 3.

The terminal, which is due to open in December, will be dedicated to Emirates Airlines and, once all expansion plans are completed, the airport will triple its handling capacity from 22 million to 70 million passengers per year.

Concourse 2 will feature 27 contact gates which are designed to handle the Airbus A380 super-jumbos.
There will also be 180 check-in counters to deal with the expected increase in passenger numbers to Dubai in the coming years.

In addition, Concourses 2 and 3, part of Terminal 3, will be connected by electric trains which are linked to the city's metro system.

The new terminal will contain 2,600 underground parking spaces. Within the parking area, a commercial centre is planned around a roof-lit atrium.

Flying facts

  • A concourse is a place where people come together or gather, it is a place where pathways meet. At airports the buildings that provide access to the aeroplanes are concourses.
  • An airport terminal is a building where passengers transfer between ground transportation and the facilities that allow them to board and disembark from aeroplanes.
  • However, the terms ‘terminal' and ‘concourse' are sometimes used interchangeably, depending on the configuration of the airport.
