Dubai: Dr. Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Adviser to His Highness the President of the UAE, said the region is currently in a perilous phase due to escalating tensions, noting that the two-state solution is key to ending the cycle of the ongoing crises in Gaza and Lebanon.
“The region is undergoing a dangerous phase, with escalating violence spiraling out of control, threatening to spread chaos and result in further loss of life. The solution starts with ending the conflict in Gaza and Lebanon, promoting de-escalation, and fostering dialogue free from extremist rhetoric,” Gargash said on X.
“The ‘two-state solution’ remains the cornerstone for halting the cycle of recurring crises and for building a better future,” he added.
At the third Asia Cooperation Dialogue summit in Doha, Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said regional conflicts should be resolved through peaceful and diplomatic means to ensure the prosperity of the region.
“We thank Asia Cooperation Dialogue countries for their support for the two-state solution and their recognition of the State of Palestine, and we urge the rest of the world to follow suit,” Prince Faisal said.
Iran president meets Saudi minister
On Wednesday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Faisal bin Farhan in Doha amid mounting fears of regional escalation, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
They discussed the latest regional and international developments during their meeting, which followed the Iranian President’s discussions with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of Qatar. SPA did not provide further details.
The meeting, which was attended by senior Saudi and Iranian officials, took place a day after Iran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israeli cities on Tuesday in retaliation for the assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh earlier this year.
Saudi Arabia and Iran restored diplomatic ties in March 2023, ending a seven-year rift.
