Dubai: Malabar Gold and Diamonds, one of the largest global jewellery retailers, has initiated month-long corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in association with embassies and like-minded organisations. The initiative includes distribution of food provision kits and iftar meals to deserving labourers and families. This initiative is expected to benefit a large section of the society across all countries in which Malabar Gold and Diamonds operates.
“CSR remains a core value at Malabar Gold and Diamonds ever since its inception in 1993 and contributing to the community has been a key part of the company’s ESG [Environmental, Social and Governance] goals. Ramadan is usually the time when we reflect on our actions and contribute to society in whatever way possible. Every year during Ramadan, we engage in various CSR initiatives, aiming to create a difference in the community in and around our area of operations and to drive other organisations, both big and small, to initiate such activities that will help the needy,” said Abdul Salam KP, vice-chairman — Malabar Group.
Needy families
In UAE, iftar meals are being distributed across various labour camps in Jebel Ali, Sonapur and the Sajja Industrial Area, in addition to several needy families residing in Ajman, individuals who have lost their jobs and those on visit visas. The food donation drive is being conducted in association with CDA, UAE Food Bank, Dubai Police, MSS, AKCAF, KMCC as well as through references provided by customers of Malabar Gold and Diamonds.
“The spirit of Ramadan gives us an added opportunity to exercise humanitarian values while making a positive impact on the lives of those around us. At Malabar Gold and Diamonds, the Ramadan CSR activity is spearheaded by our team members themselves, along with like-minded organisations and associations, together with whom we identify and provide support to the needy in the local communities,” said Shamlal Ahamed, managing director, International Operations of Malabar Gold and Diamonds.
