Abu Dhabi: Authorities in the capital cannot stress enough on the importance of verifying the safety of your tyres.

Motorists that look for cheap offers and want to cut corners buy purchasing counterfeit tyres, or whether they are driving with expired ones with the intention of buying new tyres at a later date, both reasons can lead to fatal consequences.

Abu Dhabi Police have released footage of how dangerous unchecked tyres can be on the roads, as they pose a threat to motorists and to those around them.

The video is part of Abu Dhabi Police’s efforts to encourage motorists not to purchase counterfeit tyres and to regularly check the safety of tyres.

Another precaution would be to ensure that tyres are manufactured no older than 150 days from the date of purchase.

In the first four months of 2018, police found 5,913 vehicles to be in violation of tyre safety standards.

Officials urged drivers to inspect their tyres for cracks, measure the air pressure, and change any that are damaged, according to the appropriate specifications of the vehicle.

Police also added that they have already intensified traffic patrols to monitor the Abu Dhabi’s internal roads and highways to look out for poor tyres, and warned motorists over the rising temperatures that take place during the summer months.
