Delhi is burning. Violence in the Indian capital continued on Wednesday, after a third consecutive night of rioting because of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
Twenty three people have been killed so far in the deadliest violence that the city has seen in decades. Videos emerged on social media that show how Muslim people, their homes, mosques, and shops are being targeted by violent mobs.
The clashes first broke out on Sunday between two groups of people - those who are for the country's new controversial citizenship law, and those against it. While the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Delhi Police are doing everything to bring the situation under control, Twitter users are questioning their actions. They are asking: Why are the police seen escorting protestors, damaging CCTVs, pelting stones and assisting rioters in collecting stones?
Photographs, videos and accounts on social media paint a chilling image of the protests that have taken on communal overtones. Here's a video that shows men climbing up a mosque to place saffron flags.

Violent mobs are seen in the videos carrying petrol bombs, shouting slogans while setting a Muslim shrine on fire.
Reports say that the unrest is centred around Muslim-majority neighbourhoods - such as Maujpur, Mustafabad, Jaffrabad and Shiv Vihar - in north-east Delhi.
Many Indian tweeps questioned the role of Delhi Police and asked if they were aggravating the situation or bringing it under control.
However, to show solidarity with the religious minority, many non-Muslim residents of Delhi joined Muslims residents for Ekta (unity) rallies in some parts of the city.
