Shaikh Maktoum Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE and Crown Prince of Dubai, declared open Standard Chartered Bank’s Dubai main branch at its new premises on Bank Street in Bur Dubai. “This occasion is one that can be rightly celebrated as a landmark in the bank’s close relationship with Dubai,” said Lord Barber, Chairman of Standard Chartered during his address to the chief guest and other special invitees. Lord Barber said that the shift to the new premises is evidence not only of the bank’s past association with Dubai, but also “a symbol of our faith in the future of the Emirates.” Appreciating the growth of Dubai he said: “Since we first established in 1967, Dubai has established itself as a major commercial centre of the UAE and the major dockyard in the Gulf.” Lord Barber said that the bank has been closely associated with the emirate’s development and the aspirations of its Ruler and the people.
