Qatar consolidated their lead in the GCC Golf Championships thanks to a best three team score of 215 on Tuesday to go along with their first-round score of 214 at Abu Dhabi Golf Club.
Qatar lead by 14 shots with two rounds to go from Saudi Arabia. Bahrain lie third, five shots further back and UAE are in fourth, ahead of Oman and Kuwait in the six-team regional event.
The three qualifying scores for Qatar came from Saleh Al Kaabi with a brilliant six-under 66, Ali Al Shaharani with a 74 and Jaham Al Kuwari with a 75.
The UAE lead the way in the GCC Junior Division on 21-over after 36 holes, with contributions from Abdalla Al Suwaid (77) and Mohammad Skaik (81).
Al Suwaid, who birdied holes 7 and 10, gave credit to Emirates Golf Federation coach Samir Wallani.
“I have played a lot of golf recently over the National Course at Abu Dhabi, in both the Presidents Cup a couple of weeks ago, as well as a recent EGF Golf Camp in preparation for this week’s tournament,” the 15-year-old said.
Al Suwaid lies in second place in the Junior Individual Division, five shots behind Kuwait’s Salem Alabkal with rounds of 76 and 73.
The final round of the 54-hole Junior Division will take place on Wednesday following the Men’sa Division third round.
